Kyiv came under heavy drone and missile bombardment early Sunday in what independent monitors described as one of the largest Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital and surrounding areas since the full-scale invasion began.
At least three people were killed and about 10 others injured in the capital, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia launched a “massive” assault involving hundreds of missiles and drones across the country.
He urged the international community to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow, saying: “Putin must feel the danger of continuing this war — personally for him, his buddies’ pockets, his economy, and his regime. That is what can make him stop this senseless war.”
The southern city of Zaporizhzhia was also heavily hit, with at least 16 people injured, local authorities reported.
Neighbouring Poland responded by closing airspace near two southeastern cities and scrambling fighter jets as a precaution.
