An official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has affirmed that the party's electoral list in Nineveh reflects the diversity of Nineveh Governorate, representing all communities and underlining the city’s strategic importance to both the Kurds and the PUK.

Aras Mohammed Agha, member of the PUK Leadership Council and head of the party's Nineveh Organisations Centre, told Kirkuk TV: “Our list includes candidates from Kurdish, Arab, and other sectarian groups, including Kaka’i, Turkmen, Shabak, and Yazidi, reflecting the inclusiveness of the PUK across all communities.”

He stressed that the PUK has long-standing roots in Mosul, centran city of Nineveh province, recalling that the party has sacrificed more than 500 martyrs in the city centre and continues to play a leading role, particularly in the western neighbourhoods.

Speaking about the process of selecting candidates, Aras Mohammed explained: “The list includes distinguished cadres from the judiciary, administration, and executive bodies, who are capable of providing excellent services to voters across different areas.”

He further highlighted that relations between the PUK and the Mosul's local administration are constructive, with the party actively participating in local governance, thereby contributing to broader cooperation between political actors.

On coordination with other Kurdish parties, he noted that high-level discussions were held between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on joint participation in Kurdish lists. “Although a comprehensive agreement has not been reached, the PUK’s role in Baghdad can strengthen Kurdish representation in Mosul,” he said.

Concluding, Aras Mohammed underlined that the PUK’s electoral programme spans all regions of Nineveh, with candidates committed to serving the people and safeguarding the future of the Kurds in these areas.

Iraqi parties are preparing to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections set for 11 November 2025, and the PUK affirms its readiness with an inclusive list that represents all components of Nineveh.
