Iraqi Parliament Considers Seven Key Draft and Proposed Bills

The Iraqi parliament is set to hold its ninth session of the second legislative term of the fourth legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle today, Wednesday, 17 September 2025. Lawmakers will vote on several draft laws and conduct the first and second readings of a number of others.

According to the agenda obtained by PUKMEDIA, the session will include a vote on the draft law concerning Iraq’s accession to the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions, signed in Paris in 1928 and supplemented by subsequent protocols and amendments.

The parliament will also vote on the draft law on the right to access information and debate amendments to Article 22 of the Personnel Law No. 25 of 1960. In addition, the first readings of the draft laws on juvenile care, the Iraqi Disaster and Crisis Management Authority, amendments to the National Sports Federations Law No. 24 of 2021, and alternatives to short-term custodial sentences will take place.

The session reflects the Iraqi parliament’s ongoing efforts to address legal, social, and institutional reforms while responding to public and administrative needs.
