On Tuesday, 2 September 2025, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Ambassador Ali Rıza Güney, Director General for Iraq and Iran Affairs at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting, also attended by Erman Topçu, the Turkish Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, focused on regional peace and bilateral relations.

Talabani underlined the importance of supporting the peace process in Türkiye, stressing: “The success of this process is in the interest of the entire region and confirms that the genuine solution to problems lies in peace and understanding, not in war and instability.”

The discussion also touched on relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. Talabani noted that dialogue is ongoing to resolve disputes in line with the Constitution, highlighting progress on salaries and the resumption of oil exports as areas of “unprecedented understanding.”

In a separate engagement, following his meeting with French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durrell and British Consul General to the Kurdistan Region Andrew Bizley, Talabani reaffirmed that Sulaymaniyah will remain a city of political freedom and free expression. He stressed, however, that violations of the law and the formation of armed groups outside state authority will not be tolerated.

“We remain committed to rule of law—ensuring court decisions are upheld & rights of all protected,” said Talabani.
