Iraqi President meets foreign envoys in Baghdad.
President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid welcomed the heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Iraq at the Baghdad Palace.
During the meeting, President Rashid emphasised Iraq’s current security, political, and economic stability, noting that these advances have created favourable conditions for reconstruction, infrastructure development, and extensive investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
He reaffirmed that parliamentary elections would proceed as scheduled, underlining the Presidency’s close supervision of the Independent High Electoral Commission to ensure that the elections are free, transparent, and credible. President Rashid encouraged broad citizen participation in selecting their representatives, highlighting Iraq’s pride in its democratic journey and its continued commitment to the peaceful transfer of power since 2003.
President Rashid also reviewed the Presidency’s efforts to secure the release of more than 23,000 detainees who had completed their sentences, and to oversee the implementation of the General Amnesty Law.
On foreign relations, he reiterated Iraq’s resolve to maintain balanced, friendly, and constructive relations with regional and international partners in ways that safeguard national sovereignty and advance shared interests. He praised the ambassadors for their contributions to deepening cooperation and fostering ties of friendship that support regional and global stability.
The discussion also touched on pressing international issues, foremost among them the Palestinian question. President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people, condemning acts of aggression against them and calling for decisive international measures to end violations and secure their legitimate right to an independent state.
In response, the ambassadors welcomed the dialogue, noting that such meetings provide valuable insight into Iraq’s domestic and foreign policy priorities. They expressed support for the forthcoming elections and conveyed appreciation to President Rashid for his leadership and dedication to enhancing cooperation and friendship.
