Namik Tan, Deputy Chairman of Türkiye’s Republican People’s Party (CHP), shared on his X account that he recently visited Sulaymaniyah at the invitation of Bafel and Qubad Talabani, sons of the late PUK President Jalal Talabani.

Reflecting on the visit, Tan noted that twenty years ago, during his tenure as Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, he had met Jalal Talabani at his private residence in Dukan. “Today, as CHP Deputy Chairman, I came to Sulaymaniyah at the invitation of his sons, Mr Bafel and Qubad Talabani,” he wrote.

During his time in Sulaymaniyah, Tan discussed the significance of regional cooperation with his hosts, emphasising that secular and democratic values can play a crucial role in addressing the challenges facing the Middle East. He added that building lasting peace in the region requires not only the integration of states but also the unity and collaboration of nations.

Tan also shared his impressions of Sulaymaniyah, highlighting its ancient history and welcoming population. He attended the Social Democratic Alliance Conference, organised by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), describing the experience as leaving a “deep mark” on his heart.
