PUK President and Iraqi President Discuss Recent Political and Security Developments

PUK President and Iraqi President meet in Sulaymaniyah.

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed his excellency Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, to the Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting, which was also attended by Qubad Talabani and Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, members of the Political Bureau, focused on political and security developments in the country and the wider region.

Discussions underscored the need to resolve all obstacles hindering the payment of salaries to employees in the Kurdistan Region, and stressed the importance of both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq honouring their agreements.

President Bafel, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the Iraqi President’s role and ongoing efforts in bridging differences, affirming that “the PUK’s efforts continue to ensure that the lives of our people are not put at risk.”
