Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Member of the Political Bureau and Head of Relations Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Zafer Sırakaya, Vice President of Türkiye’s Justice and Development Party (AKP), along with his delegation, at the PUK Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Jawan Ihsan and Dr. Yousif Goran, members of the PUK Political Bureau, and Salar Lala Sarhad, member of the PUK Leadership Council. Discussions focused on the peace process in Türkiye, the PUK’s efforts to support its success, bilateral relations between the PUK and Türkiye, and the broader political situation in the region.

Rasul reaffirmed that the PUK has consistently expressed full support for the success of the peace process in Türkiye, upholding the peace initiatives first established by President Mam Jalal in 1991.

VP Sırakaya welcomed the meeting, noting its significance at a pivotal time in the Kurdistan Region. He said: “The balance of relations between Türkiye and the PUK has shifted at certain stages, but issues should always be resolved through dialogue, following the wisdom of Mam Jalal and Mr. Kosrat. Our visit to the PUK Political Bureau headquarters should be understood in this context.”

Sirakaya also expressed gratitude to the PUK for its support of the peace process in Türkiye and the disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers' Part (PKK) in Sulaymaniyah Province.

The discussion further addressed the closure of Turkish airspace to flights from Sulaymaniyah International Airport, with both sides emphasising the importance of resolving the issue through the relevant parties.

Both parties agreed that political stability is essential for economic and social stability and stressed that the peaceful coexistence of Kurds, Arabs, Turks, and all communities in the region must be protected and further strengthened.
