The delegations of PUK and KDP meet in Erbil.
The negotiating delegations of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) convened today, Thursday, 14 August 2025, at the PUK Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil.
In a joint statement, they underscored the importance of earnest efforts to enable the Kurdistan Parliament to resume its normal, lawful functions in September.
According to the joint statement, received by PUKMEDIA, the meeting was a continuation of previous discussions between the two parties. Both sides affirmed that, in light of the principles and foundations agreed upon through their shared vision, notable progress had been made in organising joint action for the next phase of governance in Kurdistan. Practical measures for implementing this programme were also addressed.
With regard to the activation of the Kurdistan Parliament and the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the statement noted that, “In view of the current circumstances and regional developments, and in order to honour the aspirations and will of the people of Kurdistan, fulfil the pledges made by both sides to their constituents, respect the outcome of the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and safeguard the legal and political status of the Kurdistan Region, both sides agreed on the necessity of making serious and concerted efforts to ensure that the Kurdistan Parliament commences its normal and lawful work in September, while continuing steps towards forming the new government.”
