Bryar Rashid, PUK MP in Iraqi parliament.
A representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc has emphasised the importance of implementing the joint understandings between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government.
Dr Bryar Rashid told PUKMEDIA: “The Kurdistan Region’s current obligations are lower than those stipulated in the federal budget.”
He noted: “Under the budget, the KRG was required to deliver 400,000 barrels of oil per day to SOMO. However, following recent developments and the visit of PUK President Mr Bafel Jalal Talabani, to Baghdad, the current production capacity has been set at 130,000 barrels per day — 50,000 for domestic consumption and 80,000 for export.”
Dr Rashid added: “The KRG’s present obligations are less than those set out in the federal budget law. It is therefore essential for both the KRG and the federal government to implement their agreements, particularly the KRG’s commitment to transfer non-oil revenues and resume oil exports, in order to help lift employees and citizens out of the current crisis.”
