Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met on Monday, 11 August 2025, with Gwendolyn Green, the new U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, and Steven Bitner, the former U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region.

Deputy PM Talabani welcomed Gwendolyn Green, the new U.S. Consul General to Kurdistan, and expressed his gratitude to Steven Bitner, the former Consul General, for his dedicated cooperation and unwavering efforts, particularly in bringing the Kurdish parties closer together.

The meeting focused on the importance of enhancing relations between the two sides across various sectors. In this context, the Deputy PM described ties between the United States and Kurdistan as both special and historic.

"We take pride in the unique and historic ties between Kurdistan and the United States, founded on shared values, and remain committed to further strengthening these shared bonds in Kurdistan," he said.

In another part of the meeting, discussions centred on efforts to form the new government of the Kurdistan Region, with both sides agreeing on the need to establish a strong and unified government soon.

Addressing the issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad — particularly those concerning oil exports and the salaries of public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region — the Deputy PM emphasised that resuming oil exports is key to resolving salary and budgetary challenges. He noted that efforts to restart oil exports are ongoing.
