Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid welcomed Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and his accompanying delegation to Baghdad Palace for a series of high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional stability.
The meeting, attended by Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji and Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al Ulum, explored opportunities to deepen cooperation between Iraq and Iran, marking a significant step towards enhanced partnership and mutual understanding.
Ali Larijani conveyed greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which President Rashid warmly reciprocated, extending his best wishes for Iran’s continued progress and prosperity. Both parties reaffirmed the enduring historical bonds between their nations and emphasised their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in ways that serve their mutual interests.
“Building on centuries-old ties, Iraq remains committed to deepening collaboration with Iran, prioritising mutual interests and regional stability for the benefit of both countries,” President Rashid stated.
He reiterated Iraq’s commitment to constructive dialogue with all neighbouring states, highlighting that partnerships founded on mutual respect and shared objectives are vital to fostering economic growth, security, and lasting peace throughout the region.
The discussions also addressed recent regional and international developments, with both sides underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue to resolve crises, uphold sovereignty, and prevent interference in the internal affairs of states — principles deemed essential for building trust and stability.
Larijani conveyed appreciation from Iran’s leadership for Iraq’s steadfast role in promoting regional security and facilitating dialogue among nations. He also expressed gratitude to the Iraqi people for their warm welcome and hospitality towards Iranian pilgrims during the Arba'in pilgrimage, describing it as a powerful testament to the spirit of brotherhood and shared faith.
