Iraqi President Visits Kirkuk, Praises City’s Diversity & Calls for Accelerated Development

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid visited Kirkuk on Saturday, 9 August 2025, meeting with Governor Rebwar Taha and members of the Provincial Council to discuss development priorities, service improvements, and the city’s role as a model of peaceful coexistence.
The meeting, attended by Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Dr Ahmed Fakak al-Badrani and senior officials from the Presidency, began with the President expressing his pleasure at visiting the governorate. He highlighted Kirkuk’s strategic significance, citing its diverse population and abundant natural resources, and stressed the importance of investing in these assets for the benefit of its residents.
President Rashid underscored the need to advance public services, accelerate development projects, and raise living standards, describing Kirkuk as a “living example” of social harmony that could serve as a model for stability, progress, and reconstruction.
He urged enhanced coordination between the Provincial Council and the local administration to formulate and implement plans that match the governorate’s economic potential, noting that Kirkuk requires sustained efforts and mobilisation of resources to improve infrastructure and drive development.
The President commended Governor Taha’s work in consolidating security, strengthening community ties, and delivering services across the province. He also praised the resilience and sacrifices of Kirkuk’s residents in preserving peace, unity, and cooperation.
For his part, Governor Taha reviewed the province’s current situation, highlighting the security stability it enjoys and ongoing initiatives to improve service sectors. He welcomed the President’s directives in support of reinforcing stability and advancing development in the governorate.
