Iraq’s Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has announced the ballot numbers for coalitions, parties, and independent candidates contesting the 2025 parliamentary elections, confirming that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will run under the number 222.
The PUK will compete on a single list under the number 222 in the provinces of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, Halabja, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh province, it will run within the "Union of Nineveh People Coalition" under the number 281.
The party also has one candidate in Saladin province within the "National Masses Coalition" and another candidate in Baghdad. In total, the PUK has candidates in eight Iraqi provinces — the largest geographical spread of any Kurdish political party in these elections.
Candidate distribution includes 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, and 28 in Diyala. In Nineveh, the PUK is part of a coalition fielding 62 candidates, 31 of whom are from the PUK. The party’s Baghdad and Saladin candidates bring the total number of its contenders nationwide to 156.
Earlier this year, on 9 April 2025, Iraq’s Council of Ministers, in a session chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, approved 11 November 2025 as the date for holding the next parliamentary elections.
