Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has invited coalitions, political parties, and independent candidates to attend the draw for electoral numbers ahead of the 2025 parliamentary elections.
IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA that the Commission has extended invitations to alliances, parties, independent candidates, as well as local and international organisations and media representatives, to attend the draw. The event will take place on Saturday, 9 August 2025, at 6 p.m. in Baghdad.
According to Ghalai, a significant number of coalitions, political parties, and independent candidates have registered to participate in the elections. She noted that a total of 31 coalitions, 38 political parties, and 79 independent candidates—23 for the general vote and 56 representing the communities—will be included in the draw.
Ghalai confirmed that all registered coalitions, parties, and independent candidates will be assigned their official electoral numbers through the lottery on Saturday.
Earlier this year, on 9 April 2025, Iraq’s Council of Ministers, in a session chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, approved 11 November 2025 as the date for holding the next parliamentary elections.
