The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has extended an official invitation to alliances, political parties, and independent candidates to attend the draw for electoral numbers in preparation for the upcoming 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections.
In a statement to PUKMEDIA, IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai announced that the Commission is also inviting representatives of local and international organisations, alongside media professionals, to witness the draw. The event is set to take place on Saturday, 9 August 2025, at 6:00 p.m., at the Mansour Melia Hotel, Cordoba Hall.
Al-Ghalai revealed that a significant number of political entities have registered to participate in the elections. “A total of 31 alliances, political parties, and independent lists will take part,” she said. “The number of officially registered political parties stands at 38, while there are 79 independent candidates — 23 contesting the general vote and 56 representing minority components.”
She confirmed that all registered entities will be included in the draw to determine their official electoral numbers, which will be held as scheduled on Saturday, 9 August.
