The General Directorate of Security (Asayish) Operations in Sulaymaniyah has announced the arrest of two individuals accused of plotting a terrorist attack targeting a Civil Defence centre in the city.
According to a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the arrests followed thorough surveillance, detailed investigations, and intelligence gathering, particularly after a video surfaced on social media containing threats and outlining plans for a terrorist act. Acting on this information, the Directorate was able to identify and apprehend the suspects in Sulaymaniyah between 22 and 24 June 2025, in accordance with a judicial warrant. Notably, one of the individuals was employed at a Civil Defence centre.
The statement revealed that the suspects had initially intended to poison the centre’s drinking water supply. Their second phase involved planting an explosive device inside one of the facility’s vehicles. However, the operation was successfully foiled thanks to the swift action of the General Directorate of Asayish Operations.
It was further noted that both individuals are currently being held under Article 2 of the Anti-Terrorism Law, and investigations remain ongoing.
