President Rashid and a delegation from Media and Awareness Bureau meet in Baghdad.
Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, received a delegation from the Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) at Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
The meeting addressed the current situation in Iraq and the wider region, with both sides stressing the importance of collective efforts to bolster national unity in the face of ongoing challenges.
President Rashid underlined that resolving the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region depends on adherence to mutual agreements—an approach that supports Iraq’s stability and contributes to national reconstruction and development.
He further noted that the Presidency has submitted a number of legislative proposals to the Iraqi parliament, including a draft law for the release of unconvicted detainees and prisoners. As a result of this initiative, 15,000 detainees have been freed.
Speaking on the Yazidi genocide, President Rashid described the community’s suffering as a humanitarian issue requiring urgent action to facilitate their return to their areas of origin and ensure the provision of essential support.
President Rashid also stressed the vital role of the media during this sensitive period, calling on journalists to uphold professionalism and objectivity in their reporting. He urged the media to help shape public opinion responsibly, promote social cohesion, and adopt a rational and inclusive discourse, free from partisan bias.
The delegation, in turn, expressed their gratitude to President Rashid for his insightful comments and reaffirmed their support for a responsible national media committed to stability, unity, and constructive dialogue. They also praised the President’s balanced national stance and his efforts to position the Presidency as a platform for inclusive dialogue and consensus.
The delegation additionally commended the Presidency’s continued commitment to the repatriation of the remains of Anfal martyrs, noting this priority has been upheld since President Rashid assumed office.
