PUK President: Barzanis' Anfal is Stark Reminder of Ba'ath Regime's Brutal Policies

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a statement on the anniversary of the Anfal campaign against the Barzanis, describing it as a deep national wound and calling for serious efforts by the Iraqi government to compensate the families of the victims.

In his message, President Talabani stated:

"The anniversary of the Anfal campaign against the Barzanis remains a deep wound in the fabric of our nation and a stark reminder of the brutal policies of the Ba'ath regime, which sought through all the Anfal operations to erase the Kurdish identity and annihilate our people.

On this sombre occasion, we honour the memory of all the martyrs of Kurdistan and the victims of the Anfal campaigns, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to their proud and resilient families.

We reiterate that compensating the families of Anfal victims is not only a legal obligation, but also a concrete and necessary step by the Iraqi government to help heal part of this profound trauma.

The truest expression of loyalty to the pure blood of the martyrs is through our national unity and collective determination to strengthen and protect the Kurdistan Region."
