Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), confirmed ongoing dialogue with the Syrian government, emphasising a shared commitment to preserving the territorial integrity of Syria.

In an interview with Al Hadath TV channel, Abdi revealed that channels of communication with Damascus remain open and active on a daily basis. “There is a consensus between us and the Syrian government on the integrity of Syrian territory under one flag and one unified army,” he stated.

Speaking about the agreement signed with the Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in March, Abdi described his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, as “fruitful,” noting that they had reached the mutual understanding after a three-hour discussion. He stressed that they all agree on preserving the integrity of the country and that decentralisation does not mean secession and reaffirmed the SDF’s commitment to the 10 March 2025 Agreement, although he acknowledged that its full implementation will require time. "Syria will have one army, not two, within a "military centralisation," he said.

“Integrating 100,000 SDF fighters into the Syrian Ministry of Defence is a major step forward,” he said.

Abdi also revealed that Damascus has expressed readiness regarding the recognition of Kurdish cultural rights, including the officialisation of the Kurdish language — a longstanding demand of the Kurdish population in Syria.

On administrative matters, he advocated for a unified provincial status for both banks of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zur, calling it a necessary step for governance and stability in the region.

Abdi further confirmed that he will participate in an upcoming meeting in Paris focused on the Syrian file, and welcomed Saudi Arabia’s involvement in facilitating dialogue between the SDF and the Syrian government. “We appreciate any positive role by Saudi Arabia in this process,” he remarked.
