U.S. CG Reaffirms Support to Halabja Governor

U.S. Consul General Steven Bitner visited Halabja on Sunday, 27 July 2025, where he met with Governor Nuxsha Nasih and reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the province and congratulated Nasih on becoming the first female governor in Iraq.

Consul General Bitner congratulated Governor Nasih on Halabja's elevation to governorate status and on her historic appointment as the first female governor in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Governor Nasih expressed her gratitude for the United States’ longstanding support to the Kurdistan Region and emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation.

The Consul General offered congratulations on Halabja’s designation as Iraq’s 19th governorate and reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting the province. Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close relations and continuing U.S. assistance to Halabja in the future.
