Kurdistan VP, French CG Discuss Bilateral Relations and Peshmerga Reform

Kurdistan VP meets French CG on Thursday.

Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, met today with the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Yann Braem.

Their discussion focused on relations between France, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the latest political and security developments in the wider region. Topics included the ongoing threat from ISIS, efforts to reform and unify the Peshmerga, and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Sheikh Jaafar emphasised the importance of French–Kurdish relations, and expressed his appreciation for France’s role in the Global Coalition against ISIS, particularly their military support and training for the Peshmerga forces.

They also addressed the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, developments in Syria, and rising tensions across the Middle East.
