PUK President Urges Swift Implementation of Salary Deal in Talks with U.S. CG

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received on Monday, 21 July 2025, Steven Bitner, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting, which was also attended by Shalaw Kosrat Rasul, focused on regional political developments and emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.
Addressing the ongoing salary agreement between Erbil and Baghdad, President Talabani stressed the urgent need to implement the agreement without delay, highlighting the challenges faced by citizens — especially public sector employees.
“The agreement on salaries should not be hindered. We are making every effort to ensure its implementation and remain in constant communication with all relevant parties,” President Talabani said. He also called on technical teams to carry out their responsibilities and work swiftly to overcome any obstacles coming their way.
Consul General Bitner expressed appreciation for President Talabani’s constructive role in fostering dialogue and helping bring parties closer to an understanding.
