The Joint Operations Command (JOC) of Iraq has launched a security operation in the plains of Nineveh and Saladin provinces in search of individuals responsible for attacks on oil fields in the Kurdistan Region.
In a statement issued on Friday, the JOC declared: "Security forces are pursuing all those who threaten the safety and vital interests of Iraq."
The operation was launched on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, and was carried out under the supervision of the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, in coordination with field commanders and the Western Nineveh and Saladin Operations Commands. Security units conducted a large-scale search in the Hazar desert region spanning both provinces.
"The purpose of the operation is to verify intelligence received regarding the targeting of oil infrastructure," the statement added.
JOC described the recent attacks on oil facilities and military sites as "acts of aggression that obstruct Iraq’s path to stability and development."
It stressed that security forces will pursue all those who undermine national security and the country’s interests, warning that anyone found assisting them will be held accountable and brought to justice.
Over the past two months, 48 drone strikes have been reported across various parts of the Kurdistan Region, many of which have targeted key sites, including oil fields and military positions.
