PUK Leadership Emphasises Kurdish Unity as Key in Resolving Salary Crisis

PUK Leadership Council’s meeting.
The Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) convened today under the chairmanship of Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK, at the Political Bureau’s meeting hall in Sulaymaniyah.
The session was primarily focused on the latest developments concerning the salary situation and the general living conditions of citizens in the Kurdistan Region. Particular attention was given to recent drone attacks targeting various sites within the Region, including economic institutions.
The PUK Leadership firmly condemned these hostile actions, which are seen as deliberate attempts to undermine security, destabilise the economy, and exert pressure on the Region’s political structure.
The Leadership Council urged the federal government to fulfil its national, constitutional, and legal responsibilities in ensuring the safety of citizens in the Kurdistan Region and called for those responsible for such criminal acts to be brought to justice and for more robust measures to be implemented to prevent further security breaches.
A part of the meeting was also dedicated to discussing the increasingly fragile and deteriorating living conditions of the population. The Leadership stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive agreement with Baghdad that secures the timely payment of public sector wages, revitalises local markets, and promotes sustainable development.
The meeting reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s strategic approach and the importance of internal unity in negotiations with the federal government. The efforts of President Bafel and the Kurdish negotiating delegation were commended in this regard.
President Bafel Jalal Talabani expressed gratitude for the collective efforts being made to resolve the salary crisis and conveyed optimism about the success of these efforts, provided all parties maintain their commitment. He emphasised that the progress made thus far is a direct result of unity and collaboration within the Leadership, whose support has been instrumental in defending the welfare and rights of the Kurdish people. He noted that through solidarity and unity, the Region can secure its financial entitlements and strengthen its stability and security.
The meeting also covered a range of other political matters, which were thoroughly reviewed and assessed.
