Council of Ministers weekly session.
On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers held an additional meeting to address key issues, particularly public sector salaries.
The session centred on the financial situation in the Kurdistan Region and ongoing discussions with the federal government regarding employee salaries and outstanding financial entitlements. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani provided a detailed briefing on the understanding reached in Baghdad on Tuesday evening. The agreement aims to safeguard the Kurdistan Region’s financial rights while outlining its responsibilities.
Following in-depth discussions and an exchange of views, the Cabinet agreed to implement the terms of the new agreement. This includes the federal government’s commitment to disbursing the Kurdistan Region’s salaries and financial entitlements.
The meeting also referenced the recent visit of Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, to Baghdad, where he met with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Iraqi Prime Minister—meetings regarded as instrumental in paving the way for this new understanding between Erbil and Baghdad.
