The Presidency of the Republic of Iraq has strongly condemned the recent attacks on the Khurmala and Sarsang oil fields in the Kurdistan Region, warning that such acts pose a serious threat to the country’s security and stability.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA on 15 July 2025, the Presidency expressed grave concern over the repeated targeting of vital economic infrastructure, including the oil installations in Erbil, Duhok, and other areas.
“The recurrence of these blatant attacks undermines national security, weakens the country’s economic foundations, and endangers public interests. It also poses a direct threat to the safety and wellbeing of Iraqi citizens,” the statement read.
The Presidency stressed the importance of enhancing efforts to safeguard strategic economic assets and creating a secure environment for investment and business operations across Iraq.
It called on the competent security authorities in both the federal and regional governments to take swift and decisive action to identify and apprehend those responsible, and to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
