President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received a delegation from the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), headed by Dr Idham Mohammed Hanash, Director of the Islamic World Centre for Calligraphy and Manuscripts, to discuss avenues for expanding cooperation in the preservation of Arabic calligraphy and Islamic manuscripts.

The meeting, held at Baghdad Palace and attended by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Dr Ahmed Fakak Al‑Badrani, focused on ICESCO’s ongoing initiatives—particularly those of its Centre for Calligraphy and Manuscripts—and the potential for joint projects with Iraq.

President Rashid highlighted the significance of protecting and promoting Arabic calligraphy and Islamic manuscripts, stating:

“It is essential to preserve and expand our efforts in this field and to broaden avenues of cooperation between Iraq and the Centre for Calligraphy and Manuscripts.”

He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to the safeguarding, restoration, and conservation of Arabic and Islamic manuscripts, as well as to the continued authentication, publication, digitisation, and accessibility of these texts for scholars and researchers.

“Such efforts enrich our cultural heritage and strengthen the foundations of our society,” he added.

The ICESCO delegation expressed gratitude for President Rashid’s support for cultural cooperation and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Iraq—particularly in the preservation of cultural heritage and in promoting a dynamic, knowledge-based creative economy.
