The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil condemned on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, the recent drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region's oil fields, urging the Iraqi Government to exercise its authority to prevent armed actors from launching these attacks against sites within its own territory.

"The United States condemns the recent drone attacks throughout Iraq, including the 14 July and 15 July drone attacks on critical infrastructure at the Khormala and Sarsang oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region," the U.S. Consulate General said in a statement.

The statement added: "The Government of Iraq must exercise its authority to prevent armed actors from launching these attacks against sites within its own territory, including locations where Iraqi and international companies have invested in Iraq's future."

It also noted: "These attacks are unacceptable, undermine Iraq's sovereignty, and hurt Iraq's efforts to attract foreign investment.  We urge the Government of Iraq to investigate who is behind these attacks and hold them accountable."

The Sarsang Oil Field in Duhok was attacked on Tuesday morning, 15 July 2025, leading to a production halt. On Monday night, Two drones targeted the Khurmala oil field near Erbil, which also sustained damage to infrastructure but without casualties.

The attack forms part of a series of escalating drone strikes in the Kurdistan Region as the Erbil and Baghdad governments are working to reach an agreement on the resumption of the Kurdistan Region's oil exports and budget.
