PUK, KDP Agree to Concentrate Efforts to Resolve Salary Issue

PUK KDP Sulaymaniyah Erbil Kurdistan Region Iraq

A senior delegation from the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, visited the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Pirmam, Erbil, on Monday, 14 July 2025, where they were received by KDP President Masoud Barzani and his accompanying delegation from the KDP Political Bureau.

Following the meeting, the two sides issued a joint statement which read:

“Today, 14 July 2025, President Masoud Barzani received Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), along with his accompanying delegation. The Political Bureaus of the PUK and the KDP held a meeting to discuss recent events, developments, and challenges and issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, with particular focus on the financial entitlements and salaries of public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region.

After thorough discussions and exchange of views covering political, economic, and social aspects, both sides agreed to concentrate all efforts on resolving the issue and ensuring the provision of salaries and financial entitlements for the Kurdistan Region. They also committed to taking all necessary steps to address the issue via harmony within the framework of the constitution.

Another part of the meeting was dedicated to further strengthening the ties between the PUK and KDP in order to overcome obstacles and challenges, and to safeguard the status and achievements of the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting emphasised the need to unify the positions of all political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq to cooperate and provide support in resolving this issue.”
