PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani's meeting with prominent Kurdish politician Leyla Zana.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received prominent Kurdish politician Leyla Zana on Saturday, 12 July 2025, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
President Talabani warmly welcomed Ms Zana, honouring her legacy and long-standing commitment to the Kurdish cause.
"Just as you were a heroic Kurdish woman to President Mam Jalal—who always spoke of your courage and —your struggle and bravery will forever remain alive with us," he said.
On the topic of the peace process in Türkiye, President Talabani reaffirmed the PUK’s stance, stating:
"We are pleased that the results of our efforts have reached this stage. We remain firm in our belief that the only path to lasting stability in the region is through resolving the Kurdish issue by means of dialogue."
For her part, Ms Zana expressed gratitude to the PUK for its continued role in supporting peace efforts in North Kurdistan and Türkiye.
"We will never forget that President Mam Jalal was the first leader to take serious steps toward resolving this historic issue. I am heartened to see Bafel Jalal Talabani carrying forward that legacy. We are proud of the influential role he is playing during this sensitive time for the region," she said.
