The media office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has confirmed the establishment of a ministerial committee comprising five members to address the financial obligations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
In a statement released on the evening of Tuesday, 8 July 2025, and received by PUKMEDIA, the Prime Minister’s office stated:
“As part of the government’s commitment to implementing the provisions of the Federal Budget Law and adhering to the decisions of the Federal Court concerning financial obligations between the federal authorities and the Kurdistan Region, the Council of Ministers reviewed two documents — one submitted by the relevant federal bodies and the other by the KRG. These pertain to the handover of oil and non-oil revenues from the Region, as well as the matter of public sector salaries and their resolution.”
The statement continued: “Subsequently, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani instructed the formation of a committee chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, and including the Ministers of Construction and Housing, Higher Education, Justice, and Health. This committee will engage with all concerned parties in both the federal and regional governments to examine the two proposals. It will then submit its recommendations to the Council of Ministers so that a suitable decision can be taken at the earliest opportunity.”
