KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, announced on Monday, 7 July 2025, that a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is currently in Baghdad and continuing its meetings, expressing optimism about the outcome.
Speaking during a press briefing, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani stated: "A KRG delegation is in Baghdad and is continuing its meetings. We anticipate positive results."
He added: "A delegation from Baghdad visited the Kurdistan Region recently and the meetings were constructive. We had hoped that, upon returning to Baghdad, the outcomes would be even more favourable, but unfortunately, that was not the case."
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani concluded by noting: "The KRG delegation met with their counterparts in Baghdad today, and we remain hopeful for promising results."
Meetings between the KRG and the Iraqi federal government are ongoing in an effort to resolve long-standing financial issues. The discussions are focused primarily on the delayed payment of public sector salaries — which have been unpaid for over two months — and the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.
