Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Patrick Dorrell, the French Ambassador to Iraq, on Monday, 30 June 2025. The meeting focused on ongoing negotiations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Baghdad, as well as a range of issues of mutual interest.

The discussions were attended by Yann Braem, French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region; Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Relations; and Major General Chato Salih, Undersecretary at the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani outlined the latest developments in the talks with the Iraqi federal government.

Emphasising the importance of the citizens' welfare, he stated:

“The recent discussions between the negotiating delegations of both sides have been conducted in a positive atmosphere, and we are optimistic about reaching an agreement soon.”

He reaffirmed the commitment to do whatever possible to secure a resolution with Baghdad and ensure that the Region’s financial entitlements are met.

In a separate part of the meeting, Deputy PM Talabani expressed his appreciation to the French government for its continued support, particularly in the area of regional development.

Furthermore, he noted that a significant number of young people migrating from the Region are from underdeveloped towns and cities. "Addressing the development needs of these areas," he added, "would play a key role in reducing illegal migration — a benefit to both Kurdistan and its international partners."
