Iraqi Energy Police Recover Over 14 Million Litres of Oil Derivatives and Arrest 605 Suspects in June

The Iraqi Energy Police announced on Friday, 27 June 2025, the recovery of more than 14 million litres of smuggled oil derivatives and the arrest of 605 wanted individuals during the month of June. The Directorate also revealed the deployment of domestically manufactured drones for monitoring oil facilities.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Major General Dhafer al-Husseini, Director General of the Energy Police Directorate, stated: “During the month of June, the Directorate succeeded in recovering over 14 million litres of smuggled oil derivatives and returning them to the state,” noting that “605 wanted individuals were arrested and referred to the judiciary as part of a series of high-quality operations targeting oil smuggling networks.”

He added: “The General Directorate of Energy Police continues to carry out its duties with high efficiency in securing vital oil infrastructure, including pipelines, protecting personnel, and safeguarding this national resource.”

Major General Husseini also reported the discovery and seizure of more than 15 oil smuggling hideouts and sites. He noted that anti-smuggling efforts had reached a 98% success rate, while the Energy Police achieved complete protection of oil pipelines across Iraqi territory, with no major breaches recorded.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, he said: “The Energy Police personnel are carrying out their duties with professionalism. The coming days will witness intensified operations to apprehend anyone who attempts to target pipelines or oil facilities.”

He further revealed that the Directorate had received domestically produced drones through a contract between the Ministry of Interior and the Military Industrialisation Authority, funded by the Ministry of Oil. These drones will be deployed to monitor oil sites nationwide. The Directorate has also taken delivery of a limited number of vehicles to support these operations.
