Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani welcomed Irfan Siddiq, the British Ambassador to Iraq, for discussions on a range of shared interests.
The meeting was held on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, and was attended by Andrew Bizley, the British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, and Daban Shadala, Deputy Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Foreign Relations Department. They discussed recent developments in the surrounding area, including the ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Both sides expressed hope that the ceasefire would lead to greater stability in the region, that all disputes and conflicts would be resolved through political means, and that the international community would increase its cooperation to help uphold security and stability.
In another part of the meeting, the two sides discussed relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, with particular focus on the issue of salaried workers in the Kurdistan Region. The Deputy Prime Minister stated, “The salaries and livelihoods of citizens must not be entangled in the disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.” He added, “A delegation from the federal government is expected to visit the Kurdistan Region in the coming days. He hoped that the salary issue can be resolved.
“The Kurdistan Region and all of Iraq can progress together, and the development of any part of the country serves the interests of Iraq as a whole,” said Deputy Prime Minister Talabani.
“The Kurdistan Region can be strong and prosperous when it holds a firm position in Baghdad, and we are able to resolve our issues with Baghdad within the framework of the Constitution,” he said.
