On Sunday, 22 June 2025, Iraq’s National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Regulatory Authority announced that no radioactive contamination has been detected within Iraqi territory following the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

In an official statement, the head of the authority, Fadil Hawi Mizban, confirmed that continuous monitoring conducted since the early hours of Sunday revealed no evidence of radiation leakage. “Based on measurements from our radiological monitoring and early warning systems, including those at border crossings, no contamination has been recorded,” he stated.

Mizban further noted that all radiation readings remain “within normal background radiation limits.” He explained that the authority’s Central Emergency Operations Room has been actively overseeing the situation since the initial Israeli strikes on Iran commenced on 13 June.

The authority continues to reassure the public that the current situation is safe, while emphasising that national emergency response plans remain on standby, ready to be activated should any incident arise.
