Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Monday, 16 June 2025, that Israel would not succeed in defeating Iran while reaffirming that the country has no intention of pursuing nuclear weapons. Speaking during a session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Iranian President said Iran is not the aggressor and called for national unity in the face of external pressure.

“Israel will not overcome us through killings and assassinations,” he asserted, adding that Iranian forces are prepared to confront what he described as cowardly acts.

The Iranian President emphasised that Iran’s position on nuclear arms remains unchanged, citing the Supreme Leader’s policy against the development of such weapons. “This is a deeply held belief,” he said.

He also stressed that Iran had not walked away from negotiations and was merely seeking what he described as its legitimate rights. “No one has the authority to deny us access to nuclear energy and scientific research that benefits our people,” he stated.

Criticising international responses, Pezeshkian accused the United States of enabling Israel’s military actions and acting in violation of international law. He urged patience from the Iranian public, reaffirming the country's determination and resilience during what he called a time of crisis.

“We are not seeking domination,” he concluded, “but it is Israel that aims to target Muslim nations and impose its will.”
