Air raid sirens sounded across Israel on Friday evening, 13 June 2025, as Iranian missiles struck in retaliation for earlier Israeli air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and senior military officials.

Explosions were heard across Jerusalem, and Israeli television broadcast images of smoke rising over Tel Aviv following apparent missile impacts. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The Israeli military confirmed that dozens of missiles had been launched and instructed residents nationwide to seek shelter in designated bomb shelters.

Earlier in the day, Israel launched a series of coordinated air strikes on Iranian targets, including nuclear facilities and military installations, reportedly killing at least three senior military commanders. The operation marks one of the most significant direct attacks on Iran since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s and has sharply escalated the risk of a broader regional conflict.

The strikes came amid intensifying tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, which has made rapid progress in recent months. While Israel has long threatened pre-emptive action, successive U.S. administrations had worked to prevent such an attack, warning it could trigger a regional war and prove ineffective against Iran’s widely dispersed and fortified nuclear infrastructure.
