IHEC Allocates Approximately 9,000 Polling Stations for Upcoming Elections

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has completed its initial plan for the establishment of polling centres ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, with nearly 9,000 polling stations designated across the country, including the Kurdistan Region.

In a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, IHEC confirmed the completion of its initial plan, which was was setting up the polling station, with the total number of polling centres reaching 8,788, while the number of individual polling stations within those centres reaching 40,819 nationwide.

IHEC previously began the campaign for the distribution and renewal of voter cards and biometric data on 24 March 2025, with the process scheduled to continue until 20 June 2025.

The previous parliamentary elections, held on 10 October 2021, resulted in the election of 329 members to Iraq’s fifth parliamentary term. That legislature held its first session on 9 January 2022, with a recorded voter turnout of 42.15 percent.
