A high-level delegation from the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, headed by Faramarz Asadi, Iranian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, visited the Political Bureau headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Erbil on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. The delegation, which included several advisers and diplomats, was received by Saadi Ahmed Pire, member of the PUK Political Bureau and the party's spokesperson.

During the meeting, Consul General Asadi highlighted the long-standing friendship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the PUK, acknowledging the pivotal role of the late President Mam Jalal Talabani in fostering and strengthening these relations.

“The PUK has a proud history of struggle and sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom, democracy, and human rights,” Asadi stated. “The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply values this enduring struggle and looks forward to further enhancing coordination and strengthening friendly ties.”

In response, Pire expressed gratitude for the visit and noted its significance as an opportunity to renew the historic and longstanding relationship between the two sides. He also acknowledged Iran’s support for the Kurdish people throughout various phases of their revolutionary struggle, particularly during the movement led by the PUK.

On the occasion of the PUK’s Golden Jubilee, marking the party’s 50th anniversary, the Iranian Consulate in Erbil also delivered a formal letter of congratulations to PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and the party leadership.
