The Governor of Kirkuk has confirmed that the Iraqi government has not provided any budget to the province this year, stressing the urgent need for financial resources to complete strategic projects and reinforce stability in the province.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 2 June 2025, Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha stated: "Since the new administration assumed office in September last year, not a single dinar has been allocated to Kirkuk. In previous years, the province received up to one trillion dinars annually. Now, halfway through 2025, Kirkuk's budget remains at zero."

Governor Taha underscored the importance of budgetary support, saying: "This is a message to all concerned within the state: Kirkuk urgently requires a budget to carry out key development projects and to maintain the security and social stability that have only recently returned to the province after years of unrest."

He further emphasised the inclusive approach of the new local government: "The current administration in Kirkuk does not differentiate between the province’s diverse communities and regions. We are united in our efforts to serve all citizens of Kirkuk as one team."
