Deputy PM: PUK and KDP Have Agreed on Roadmap for Governance

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen to discuss the Kurdistan Region’s relationship with the United States, ongoing issues with Baghdad, and a range of other matters of mutual concern.
The meeting, also attended by Steven Bitner, U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, saw Senator Rosen commend Deputy PM Talabani for his role in strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, as well as his efforts in reforming the Peshmerga forces and government institutions. She reaffirmed the United States' continued support for the Kurdistan Region.
Deputy PM Talabani emphasised the significance of the alliance between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, describing it as vital not only in the fight against terrorism but also in supporting the Region’s stability, development, and institutional reform. He noted that the partnership is essential for building a unified national force and advancing governance in Kurdistan.
The formation of a new government in the Kurdistan Region was also a key topic, with Senator Rosen underscoring the importance of establishing a strong and unified government without delay. In response, Deputy PM Talabani confirmed that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) have agreed on a roadmap for governance, expressing hope that a final agreement would be reached soon.
The meeting also addressed relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. Deputy PM Talabani highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly surrounding budget allocations and salary payments. He stressed that dialogue is essential to resolving these disputes and called for greater unity among Kurdish political parties to achieve a lasting resolution.
