PUK Media and Awareness Bureau Marks Release of Mam Jalal’s Book on Party’s Founding
An introductory seminar was convened today to present and distribute the book “The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Why?” authored by President Mam Jalal Talabani. An official from the Media Board stated that the book explores the foundation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) by a collective of activists from diverse ideological and political backgrounds, noting that the formation of the PUK was a challenging and complex undertaking.
Marking the golden jubilee of the PUK’s founding, the Awareness Board of the Media and Awareness Bureau organised the seminar on Tuesday, 28 May 2025. The event took place at the Kurdistani Nwe Hall in Sulaymaniyah, featuring the Arabic-language book authored by President Mam Jalal and its Kurdish translation by the late martyr Aram.
During the seminar, Latif Nerweyi, member of the PUK Leadership Council and Head of the Media Board, highlighted that President Mam Jalal had underscored in his book the considerable difficulties involved in founding the PUK. He emphasised that it was not the work of a single individual, but rather the outcome of the collective efforts of activists from across the ideological spectrum—particularly leftists and progressives—who contributed their ideas and beliefs to the creation of a new political movement.
Nerweyi further remarked: “At that time, there was a significant political vacuum. Had this void remained unaddressed, it might have led to widespread public disillusionment regarding the ability to resist the regime’s demographic engineering efforts in Kurdistan—an outcome that would have inflicted serious harm upon the people.”
He also noted that mobilising the available human resources and capabilities at that crucial juncture played an important role in igniting a new revolutionary movement.
The event concluded with the distribution of copies of “The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Why?” to those in attendance.
