Dr. Jwan Ihsan Highlights Importance of Peace Process for Kurdistan, Türkiye, and Surrounding Region

Dr Jwan Ihsan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the peace process, highlighting its importance for regional stability. She also clarified that the PUK has not requested a meeting with the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Speaking at a press conference attended by PUKMEDIA, Dr. Jwan Ihsan said: “We participated in the Socialist International conference held in Türkiye, where we met with representatives from the Republican People’s Party (CHP). Our discussions focused on regional stability and the peace process in Türkiye.”
She continued: “As a socialist-democratic party, the PUK is dedicated to fostering stability, peace, and democratic foundations. The CHP shares this vision. The late President Mam Jalal was instrumental in initiating the peace process in Türkiye, and it began under his leadership. We continue to support this initiative and stress its significance for Türkiye, Kurdistan, and the wider region.”
Dr. Jwan also clarified: “The PUK has not requested a meeting with the Turkish Foreign Ministry.”
She added: “We are working to revitalise the Kurdish Committee within the Socialist International, as well as in other international organisations. This effort strengthens the Kurdish cause and the role of Kurdish parties on the global stage. In the coming period, we will organise a major meeting in Sulaymaniyah to unify the position of Kurdish parties within the Socialist International. Our visit to Türkiye was primarily to attend this important conference.”
She also affirmed: “In all our meetings, we have consistently raised the issue of lifting the ban on Sulaymaniyah International Airport. It is a harmful and unjust decision, economically damaging first to Türkiye, and then to the Kurdistan Region and Sulaymaniyah. This is one of the many reasons why we view the peace process as crucial—it holds the potential to resolve numerous longstanding issues.”
Dr. Jwan further said: “This year marks our party’s golden jubilee, and we have planned a number of events to celebrate this significant occasion in a manner befitting its importance.”
She concluded: “Our meeting with the CHP reaffirmed their support for the peace process in Türkiye. They, too, recognise the importance of peace, diplomacy, and mutual understanding in addressing the region’s challenges. We stand in full support of the peace process.”
