PUK President: Shared Vision for Governance Formulated in the Kurdistan Region

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Andrew Bizley, the British Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, in a meeting held in Sulaymaniyah on Monday, 26 May 2025.
According to a statement issued by the PUK President’s media office, the two sides discussed key developments concerning both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq more broadly. The meeting underscored the importance of sustained communication and mutual understanding among all parties in order to address ongoing challenges effectively.
With regard to the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), President Talabani stated:
“A shared vision for governance has been formulated, which will serve as the programme of work for the next government. We hope that the negotiating delegations of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party will reach a consensus on the distribution of positions.”
The meeting also touched upon the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, with both parties affirming the need to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
