IHEC Concludes Registration Phase for November Parliamentary Elections

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has released updated figures on political parties and alliances registered to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections, set for November 2025. The registration window for alliances, parties, and independent lists officially closed on Thursday, 22 May 2025.

According to a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Department of Political Parties and Organisations confirmed the final registration status:
•Authorised political parties: 343
•Parties currently in formation: 60
•Parties formally expressing intent to participate: 118
•Existing political alliances: 66
•Alliances granted official approval by the Board of Commissioners: 5
•Alliances pending approval: 11
•Alliances expressing interest in participating: 25
•Independent electoral lists submitted: 16

Earlier, on Monday, the IHEC extended the deadline for submitting applications for participation in both general and minority component seats until 22 May.

Previously, on 9 April 2025, the Prime Minister’s Media Office confirmed that the Iraqi Council of Ministers, in a session chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, had formally set 11 November 2025 as the date for the next parliamentary elections.
