Over 23,000 Released Under Iraq’s Amended Amnesty Law

The Supreme Judicial Council has released updated figures concerning the implementation of the amended Amnesty Law No. 27 of 2016, covering the period from 1 to 22 May 2025.
In a statement issued by the Council’s official media office, and received by PUKMEDIA, it was revealed that 3,839 individuals were released from detention centres and prisons across all governorates under the provisions of the law. Additionally, 11,524 individuals with arrest warrants, bail orders, or in absentia convictions were included in the amnesty measures.
The total amount recovered during this period was 4,712,291,591 Iraqi dinars.
The statement further clarified that, when these figures are added to those previously announced on 13 May 2025, the cumulative number of individuals released stands at 23,220. Meanwhile, the overall number of defendants covered by arrest warrants, summonses, charges, or in absentia judgments has reached 105,121.
The total amount recovered so far under the amended amnesty law now stands at 16,653,748,583 Iraqi dinars.
