Speaking at the Delphi Forum Slemani, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, reaffirmed the strengthening ties between Kurdistan and Greece, emphasising the region’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.
“We are ready to partner with all who share our vision for inclusive, sustainable development,” said Talabani, describing the forum as “a symbol of that partnership.”
Deputy PM Talabani expressed his gratitude to the Greek government and the Delphi Economic Forum for choosing Sulaymaniyah as the host city. “We thank the Greek government and the Delphi Economic Forum for selecting Sulaymaniyah as the site of this important gathering,” he said.
He praised the deepening relationship between Kurdistan and Greece. “Kurdistan and Greece — two lands with ancient roots — are demonstrating that tradition and transformation can go hand in hand in pursuit of a brighter future,” he added.
He underlined the Kurdistan Region’s increasing engagement in local and regional affairs and its proactive role in addressing challenges such as security, energy, climate change, and migration, highlighting the importance of working with international partners to find shared solutions.
He hoped that the forum would serve as an opportunity to tackle key issues and establish a common way forward, whilst also supporting economic reforms aimed at diversifying the economy, empowering young people, promoting women’s participation, and attracting long-term investment.
In other parts of his address, Deputy PM Talabani highlighted Sulaymaniyah’s resilience and spirit of innovation. “Sulaymaniyah stands as a testament to what can be achieved, even in difficult circumstances, through entrepreneurship, innovation, and resilience,” he said.
“From energy and tourism to cleaner industry, artificial intelligence, new technology, and the arts, Sulaymaniyah is brimming with potential,” he added.
The Delphi Forum Slemani kicked-off in Sulaymaniyah on Sunday, 18 May 2025, marking the forum’s first edition in the city. The event well continue until 19 May 2025.
The Delphi Economic Forum is internationally recognised as a vital platform for policy dialogue, regional development, and investment promotion. It addresses key issues such as security, sustainable energy, economic diversification, and innovation.
Hosting the forum in Sulaymaniyah for the first time represents a strategic initiative to enhance international engagement with a special focus on the Middle East. The event is held under the oversight of Qubad Talabani, the Kurdistan Region’s Deputy Prime Minister, and is supervised by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
