The Delphi Forum Slemani is set to begin in Sulaymaniyah on 18 May and continue through 19 May 2025, marking its debut in the Middle East.
The event is held under the observation of Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and is supervised by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Described as a strategic platform for regional dialogue, coordination, and development, the forum will address key issues such as regional security, sustainable energy, economic diversification, and expanding investment opportunities in the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
“This is a new initiative for global and regional dialogue, with a special focus on the Middle East,” forum organisers stated. The event gathers a range of dignitaries from Iraq, Greece, and other countries, as well as business leaders and investors, to shape regional economic policies and foster greater cooperation.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sulaymaniyah Governor Haval Abubakir emphasised the significance of the forum, which begins tomorrow, highlighting its role in promoting collaboration across a range of fields including investment, politics, governance, marketing, healthcare, technology, artificial intelligence, and more.
“It is essential that media outlets responsibly promote this forum and present the vibrant and progressive image of our province to the world. This conference will not only serve as a bridge to the international community but will also mark a step forward in Sulaymaniyah’s openness to global engagement,” said Governor Abubakir.
Symeon Tsomokos, founder and president of the Delphi Economic Forum, told a news conference Saturday, 17 May 2025, in Sulaymaniyah that they plan to establish an institution to hold the forum annually in the city, similar to London, Paris, Berlin, and Washington.
Tsomokos said the Delphi Forum Slemani will be overseen by KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and focus on geopolitical changes in the region.
He added they aim to make the forum “one of the most prominent events in this region.”
Tsomokos further noted that the Forum has been held in Delphi, Greece, for the past 10 years, concentrating on the global economy, and that additional forums will take place under Delphi’s auspices in cities like Washington, Berlin, and Paris.
The Delphi Economic Forum is widely recognised as a strategic platform for dialogue, policy coordination, and regional development, addressing issues such as security, sustainable energy, economic diversification, and innovation, while also showcasing investment opportunities.
This marks the first time the Delphi Forum is being hosted in Sulaymaniyah, reflecting a major initiative to foster global dialogue with a particular focus on the Middle East.
The event will welcome prominent figures from Iraq, Greece, and other countries, including business leaders and investors from across the globe, all committed to shaping trade policies, development strategies, and regional cooperation.
Organised in partnership with the Kurdistan Regional Government, the forum is being held under the supervision of the General Secretariat for International Relations, the Foreign Affairs Department of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Enterprise Greece.
